Gifting Room. Don't just dream, do.

January 31, 2019

As part of Sophie's (Lifting Room Founder) 'Don't just dream, do!' initiative, she hopes to build a network of support for her member's and other small businesses and charities in and around

Sophie has been lucky enough to meet some very special people since opening Lifting Room CrossFit in 2016 and strives to continue giving back to it's community, many of whom don’t just see it as a gym but a second home.

Sophie's mission is to provide an insight into some great local businesses, the people behind them and how they've become so passionate about what they do. So this month it is the introduction of Jo Jones-Hayes who joined the Lifting Room in January 2018 and who has been an incredible part of the 6am 'Early Bird' crew. Over the past 13 months Jo has completed a 10km Wolf Run, ran more than 12km in aid of MS, taken part in The Depot Series CrossFit competition, and helped other members in reaching their running goals. Today, Sophie would like to introduce Jo and the first small business of the 'Don't just dream, do!' initiative.

Jo owns and runs a franchise of Cha-Char Chimps, an award winning interactive musical fun show for pre-school children. Over the past 14 months she has grown her business across it's four locations holding shows from Tuesday to Friday in Silverstone, Towcester, Greens Norton and Bugbrooke.

Before making CCChimps her full time job and business, Jo worked as a College Lecturer in Beauty where she very successfully climbed her way up the career ladder. After the birth of her daughter Willow (5, and one of our very first 'Little Lifters'), Jo started to think about her work-life balance. The inability to continue her role as Lecturer in a part time capacity and taking on a shift based role in between pregnancies is what motivated her to find a better balance between the two. In November 2017 after the birth of their son, River (3), Jo and husband Adam decided to invest in Cha-Char Chimps which has given Jo the flexibility to be with her family and most importantly continue to enjoy her job.

On Wednesday 30th January, Sophie was lucky enough to be able to help at The Sawpits Centre show in Towcester which Jo has proudly taken from a steady 9 person gathering to a 30+ parent and child fun-fiilled hour. From set up to pack down it is clear how she has taken the gains in her strength, skill and aerobic capacity from the Lifting Room and made it a part of her lifestyle. As a coach, it was great to gain a hands on experience and to fully understand how her tasks between work and home can be so closely related to her training. It was thoroughly enjoyable to watch Jo in action, her energy is high, her smile is bright and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Leaving her career was not an easy decision, Jo took the risk and has enabled her own work-life balance. Of course with running a business comes a lot of responsibility so Sophie asked Jo to tell us about her experiences as a small business owner.

What do you love the most about your job?

"...a massive reward for me is seeing the children and their parents and quite often grandparents, smiling and laughing together..."

How do you stay motivated?

The community I have around me is what motivates me, a group of supportive mothers, fathers and grandparents who are able to relate to one another in many ways.

What's the hardest thing about running your own business?

Staying focussed on the accounts and administration, I am really lucky to have my husband Adam to help.

How has training helped you with your business?

Each Lifting Room CrossFit class sets me up for the day ahead. Being in such an active role, its great to be feeling stronger and moving well.

What's your next challenge outside your business commitments?

On 24th March I am running the London Landmarks Half Marathon, (my first ever) in aid of Tommy's, a charity which funds research into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage, and provides information for parents-to-be.

Help Jo reach her target and Donate whatever amount, small or large.

We would like to thank Jo for being a Lifting Room Super-mum, and wish her all the best this 2019.

Thank you to Jo, Hannah and all the Cha-Char Chimps supporters for inviting Sophie into the very friendly Towcester Cha Char Chimps show.

If you are looking for a morning activity in the NN12 area for you and your little ones, why not contact Jo today for more information or to find out how you can get involved at the next Cha-Char Chimps show!
